Russia is just mad that even in our diminished state, the US is more powerful and influential than Russia has ever been.
I do believe the US is in a swift decline and it will break apart fairly soon but Russia will not replace us. Russia can't even beat Ukraine.
Russia used to mooch diesel from the US during the war in Serbia, because the Russian army would sell the fuel to get money. 
They used to try and impress and intimidate the US troops by eating light bulbs. 
It was then our military realized Russia was never a threat to the US. The might Russian bear was more like a circus clown bear on a unicycle.
